The Love of My Life
Everyone's had that love, that one that that has them smiling silly over.
I, too, have mine. That beautiful now-stranger, the one who still makes my heart skip a beat, the kind of love I prayed to God to have... but this is not a post to shout to the world to express my holy-schmoly undying love.
It's to say that it is okay, really okay, to love. Even when it doesn't make sense*.
That's important, because I can now safely say that the world is full of people I love, and not a single one do I hate. Dislike some of them maybe, but that's okay, we don't have to like everybody we see. I hope you are like me in this area at least, for love is the only element that will allow you to be happy when you see that Someone happy with a Someone Else. Yes, even when it's painful.
Because that's what love is. It makes you cry sometimes, but it makes your heart bigger. And you're able to truly smile, wish them well. A little bit like Adele when she sang Someone Like You.
Thinking about my experience, I feel... that it's rather unfortunate. We liked each other but the timing wasn't right, circumstances, his well-meaning defenders - and I was suddenly the villain. Funny, isn't it. Both parties got hurt and people outside the situation start pointing fingers and whispering things.
Our friendship got tainted and, much worse than losing the love, I lost a friend as well. That friend whose shoulder I thought I would one day rest my head on.
Well, I'd like to think that all of this is to help me understand love, to appreciate people better.
Thus... To you all who have loved and lost: it's okay to love. It's alright to have a lost a love of a lifetime, The One.
Because you took a chance and you gave one - and you now know how it is to love: truly, you may have lost a man but gained a God - That One who won't let you go.
And if by any chance you later meet someone who gives you butterflies in the stomach again, I pray you will hang on to him, that your love story will be sweet and beautiful, able to withstand the externalities be it finances, in-laws or the mundanity of life.
May your special Someone come soon and love you the way you want and need to be loved, that when you look into each others' eyes you will see delight reflected back at you, so you can't help but smile when you see each other.
God bless you my friend, may happiness follow you wherever you go.
