So I was trying to explain my nit-picking fiance what grace is, but found it a mouthful to explain. Google was helpful, but the articles were not: perhaps I hadn't the right words to find the right entries.
In Christian terms, you could find a pretty good explanation and definition here - but how do you explain that without delving into theology?
Grace, in social definitions and applications can be easily defined as this: "I will overlook this."
We could be bloody angry, offended, you-name-it - that is when "I will overlook this" fully demonstrates what grace is. It does not mean you're an idiot, or gullible. In fact you're completely aware of what's going on (that's why you're angry, right?) - but when you overlook something, it is grace.
Or in Hokkien terms, "limpeh hor li chance."*
*Direct translation: "Your father (me) will give you a chance"
