that made me think: so... what's life about, if not about happiness? it's not about the pursuit of frivolity, is it? but since i wasn't looking for an argument, i held my tongue.
maslow's hierarchy of robot needs helps illustrate my thinking:

well, alright, so we're not robots and we don't kill humans - though sometimes we'd very much want to, especially during traffic peak hours.
but truly, happiness is a by-product of this. to tell me that happiness (and its other forms: contentment, satisfaction, joy - happiness and all its subsets) is not what life's about - then there must be something i am totally not understanding. is there some joy in suffering, like a diet?
not wrong, but if it makes you happy/satisfied convinced that life really isn't about happiness - then i guess you're happy. i'm not disagreeing with you (i can't) because it's a everyone's personal choice.
and if you're happy i'm happy, see?
said friend, i'm not looking for a fight, to argue. i just want you to be happy, and i'm sure that you already are, when i said that.
