when you don't know what the future holds

it's alright, y'know.

not knowing what the future holds. not many people do.

you may have an inkling of what it might be like, where you're going to work at, what you're going to do, where you're going to live, suchlike. but truly, you won't know where you're going to be at till that time comes. it doesn't quite matter what it holds or what it doesn't hold - 'cause the present is what we've got.

it doesn't matter if there's a promise of that job, that relationship, that home, that car, that fat bank account, that health, that beauty, that everything else or not, 'cause what matters is now. the future is what hopes are made of and hopes are often there because there's nothing in the present to make it look better. hope gives us a reason to live and a target to strive towards.

hope's for people in the gutter, digging that trench - they need the stars. oscar gave them that, God bless his soul.

me, i'm not in the gutter. i look at stars too but i'm not in the gutter. i suspect a lot of us are the same way, only some of us don't realise that we're not in the gutter.

not in the gutter.

we're not in the gutter. "the only way is up" is not for you, capisce?

but. do not let anyone rob you of the present.

dream. talk, laugh. play, love, swim. get yourself smacked by waves at the beach, splutter. get a cat, howl at the shredded loo roll in your restroom. look at that handsome man/beautiful woman. flirt with that baby. admire and remember that beauty. know what you want, who you want to spend time with, do what makes you feel like you're alive.

live, cause it's your time you're spending.

think about the future. discuss it. that's what dreams and friendships are made of. it doesn't matter if it happens or not, because the fact that you're talking about it means you're living it now.

we don't need the future. we just need now.
